How Shuffyl Pays Artists Fairly

Fair pay should be simple: your money should support the artists you choose, and every fee should be visible before you pay.

Shuffyl uses transparent splits, user-centric allocation, and webhook-confirmed payment records so artists and fans can see how funds move.

TL;DR

  • Shuffyl Subscription: 20% platform fee, then the remaining 80% is allocated user-centrically to artists you actually listen to. If you do not listen during that paid period, your pool is split evenly across all artists.
  • Become a Fan: 5% to Shuffyl, 95% to the artist.
  • Tips: 0% to Shuffyl, 100% to the artist.
  • Settlement rule: user-centric allocation only counts listening from settled paid periods, not trial-only access.
  • Final payment state: paid/pending/failed/refunded is finalized by Stripe webhook events, not only by the redirect screen.

How each payment type works

1) Shuffyl Subscription

  • Who pays: listener with a paid Shuffyl subscription.
  • Shuffyl cut: 20% platform fee (as disclosed in artist onboarding terms).
  • Artist share:remaining 80%, allocated user-centrically based on eligible listening by that user. If a subscriber has zero eligible listening in the period, that subscriber’s pool is distributed evenly across all artists.
  • When counted: listening is payout-eligible only during settled paid periods.
  • Receipts/status: subscription billing status and invoice state are tracked in Billing and checkout status views.
Formula:
Listener subscription payment − 20% platform fee = user allocation pool
User allocation pool is distributed to artists by eligible listening from settled paid periods. If eligible listening is zero, the pool is split evenly across all artists.

2) Become a Fan (Artist Subscription)

  • Who pays: listener subscribing to a specific artist.
  • Shuffyl cut: 5%.
  • Artist share: 95%, routed through Stripe Connect destination payout.
  • When counted: on successful recurring payment (or one-month pass when used).
  • Receipts/status: paid/pending/failed/expired/canceled states are visible after checkout and in billing history.
Formula:
Fan payment × 5% = Shuffyl fee
Fan payment × 95% = artist payout amount

3) Tip Artist

  • Who pays: listener sending a one-off tip to an artist.
  • Shuffyl cut: 0%.
  • Artist share: 100% of tip amount.
  • When counted: when Stripe confirms payment success.
  • Receipts/status: receipt URLs and failure/refund statuses are written to payment records and shown in billing surfaces.
Formula:
Tip amount × 0% = Shuffyl fee
Tip amount × 100% = artist payout amount

Transparency notes

  • Checkout redirect confirms intent, but final payment and entitlement state is webhook-driven for integrity.
  • “Pending” can appear briefly while webhook events are processing; this is normal and avoids false success states.
  • Artists must be payout-ready on Stripe Connect before fan subscriptions or tips can be accepted.
